The first Bioindustry Award¡¯s first prize went to Samayng Genex Corporation, which is the first company in Korea to have succeeded in manufacturing an anti-cancer drug (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient Paclitaxel, GenexolR) using the plant tissue culturing method. Bio-Industry Award, which is sponsored by Bioindustry Association of Korea and supported by Daily Economy Newspaper is established to boost the public awareness of Bio-Industry and to increase morale of those working in the field. And the Review Committee (Committee chairman , Wan-Gyu Cho) of Bio-Industry Award judged and announced their decision on 21st of December at Seoul Palace Hotel. Bio-products Award went to Bioneer Corp oration , wh ich invented and manufactured Automatic DNA preparation machine. Bio-Technology Award went to Macrogen¡¯s industrialized bacteria Zymomona. The presentation of the award s will be held on December 28, 2000 (3:30 PM) at the economic council club on the 20th floor of Jun-Kyung-lyon Center. The review judging Committee cited the successful plant cell cultivation for the production of pharmaceutical ingredient, contents of the technical development and the originality of the product, and the anticipated expansion of its market as some of the reasons for selecting Samyang Genex's Genexol. The preliminary review of the nominees were completed by Professional Committee with economics, technology, etc. as the main selection criteria. And the final decisions for the awards were determined through the second review by the Review Committee of Bio-Industry Award.
